Events are designed to create awareness of WDSRA and to raise funds to support WDSRA. Building awareness makes it possible to reach people with special needs who may not know about services and the many volunteers it takes to run programs. The funds raised make it possible for WDSRA to provide a variety of programs including summer camps (day and overnight), sports and arts camps, adapted sports teams, etc., and inclusion services in any of the member park district classes. Inclusion services allow children to participate in regular park district classes with some assistance. Contributions allow WDSRA to continue to provide quality recreational programming, qualified staff, specialized equipment, needed scholarships, and ensure that the cost of programs stay low.

Serious Golf and Serious Fun! The Charlie Long/WDSRA Golf Classic is for anyone who enjoys a superb golf experience and philanthropically supporting their community. The Classic is a perfect blend of golf, refreshments, and contests.
Held at the prestigious Arrowhead Golf Course, Wheaton, the day includes a shotgun start 18 holes with cart, scramble format , contest hole prizes , silent auction and raffle prizes , on course refreshments, lunch, awards, and dinner.
